The "Instituto de Seguridad Social Sur" hospital in Quito, one of the reference centers for the care of patients with coronavirus, has an external emergency area for patients with less severe respiratory symptoms, where they remain for up to 48 hours and do not require oxygen therapy or intravenous medication. If the patient remains stable, they are sent home, where they are followed up by telephone. In seriously ill patients, in need of oxygen therapy and complex cases, they are admitted to hospital facilities.
