ROSES MARKET ECUADOR IN CRISIS

COTOPAXI, ECUADOR - AUGUST 1: The rose market in Ecuador in 2018 is affected by short-term factors that cause the beginning of a new crisis in the sector, according to the economic information of Expoflores 2018. The appreciation of the dollar and the depreciation of Russian and European currencies have caused a strong impact on importers of Ecuadorian roses, who have had to pay more for the same amount of roses. Rose Ecuadorian exports fell to USD 635 million, in 2018, decreasing 2.8% compared to 2017, which was a good year for the sector, with growth of 8.9% compared to 2016.
InorFlowers, producer and exporter of high quality roses, with a farm in El Boliche, Cotopaxi, Ecuador, has experienced in 2018 a drop in sales to the US market as well as their main competitor experimented an export growth. Its production is destined to Russia and Ukraine, in 55-60, to de US in 30-35% and to the European market in
