ECUADOR HISTORICAL MEMORY. 2022-04-15. San Pablo de los Secoyas - Sucumbios - Ecuador 2005-05-10. In 2005 Humberto Piaguaje invited a group of journalists to a meeting with teachers from the Cofanes and Secoyas towns in San Pablo de los Secoyas, to explain the issues of bilingual education. In Ecuador there are 14 nationalities and several native languages in the indigenous peoples of the Sierra, Costa and Amazon, which makes it a multilingual and multinational country. In 1992, the National Congress succeeded in decentralizing Dineib. The beginning was official in 1993 with the Bilingual Intercultural Education Model, then in 2000 the education directorates were organized by nationalities, within the framework of the different EIB zonal networks. The official languages of intercultural relations are Kichwa and Shuar, the other ancestral languages are of official use for indigenous peoples depending on the area they live.
The languages of the peoples and nationalities are as follows.
COAST: there are four nationalities each with its own language: Awa, the awapít; Chachi, chapalaa; Wait, siápede; Tsáchila, tsa'fiquí.
SIERRA: the only nationality is the Kichwa and its 18 towns speak the Kichwa language.
AMAZON: the Cofán nationality, the Ingae; Secoya and Siona, the paicoca (baicoca); Waorani, wao tedeo; Shiwiar, shiwiar chicham; Zapara, zapara; Achuar, Achuar chicham; walk, walk; kichwa, kichwa; Shuar, Shuar chicham. Patricio Realpe/ChakanaNews
