2016 BAJADA DEL ÁNGEL PEÑAFIEL 020.jpg
PEN?AFIEL, SPAIN, MARCH, 27, 2016. Plaza del Coso of Penafiel before the traditional “Bajada del Angel”, which takes place on Easter Sunday, The “Bajada del A?ngel” represents withdrawal of mourning of the virgin, after the resurrection of his son Jesus. The documents already speak of this tradition in the eighteenth century, although its origins are probably in an Ages Sacramental Act. The Virgin leaves from the church of Santa Maria, covered by black veil and go in procession to the Plaza del Coso, where it is placed between two towers in the center of the square, where the child, dressed as an angel, appears with a white habit, leaving a balloon suspended above his head, through a pulley system to remove the veil of the virgin, before releasing doves, symbol of the Holy Spirit. This tradition is also celebrated in Aranda de Duero and Tudela, here in Spain or by the people of Saraguro in Ecuador. Photo: Patricio Realpe/ChakanNews
