SABUCEDO, JULY 4-6, 2015. The Rapa das Bestas is the name of a cultural and tourist festival that consists of cutting the horse's mane and tails' hair and brand them by the Aloitadores, Subduers. The Rapa is carried out in the curros (enclosed enclosures where the horses are collected) in various locations in Galicia (Spain), but the the most popular is annually held in Sabucedo in the first weekend of July, for three days.
The horses are collected in the mountain before the rapa days and are concentrated in nearby places from where they are taken in groups to curros. There they separate the foals of the herd to a corral so that they do not suffer any damage; then a team consisting of three people, Aloitadores, hold the horse (two covering the eyes so you do not freak out) and another holding the tail (to prevent it from cocee), once immobilised is dewormed, cured and his mane and tail are scraped.
