MINDO, ECUADOR - JUNE, 7, 2021: Mindo is located in the Chocó Andino cloud forest, northwest of Pichincha, Ecuador. It is reached after 98 km and two hours of spectacular views to the northwest of the Ecuadorian capital, Quito. It is a place of reference worldwide as one of the best places for bird watching and for its biodiversity. In Mindo we can find a large number of the 4500 species of orchids existing in Ecuador. Mindo is also a magnet for hummingbirds and butterflies within the Chocó Andino. Its waterfalls and exuberant nature complete an offer that is difficult to resist.
Thanks to the tour operator, SabinaTour, we were able to enjoy this recital of color and nature in its purest form, with different birdwatching tours, to see orchids, hummingbirds, butterflies, etc. The community tourism of Mindo that works with small businesses in the area is another value that is promoted from Sabina Tour, with visits to ecological enterprises for the production of cocoa, chocolate and coffee.
We visit the Cabañas Armonía Orchid Garden, which has around 250 species of orchids. Its objective is the rescue and conservation of endangered species, for which it also conducts a tour based on "Environmental Education and Interpretation" with visitors. At the end of the visit you can sit down to enjoy the hummingbirds, accompanied by some typical food and drink.
At the Casa Divina lodge we begin bird watching (tanganas, toucans, hummingbirds, etc.) and then continue through other reserves in this area of the Chocó Andino. @Patricio Realpe/ChakanaNews
