HISTORICAL MEMORY. 2022-04-12. TIGUA. COTOPAXI. ECUADOR. The TIGUA MASKS are made of wood and painted with striking acrylic colors, in which animals of the Andean worldview and Amazonian worldview are portrayed, such as condors, hummingbirds, wolves, monkeys and bears. Popular characters from the festivals are also portrayed, such as the Devil Huma - Diablo huma, Danzante de Pujilí, clowns, skulls and devils of different colors, which are the portraits of the Spanish conquerors. They are currently considered a manifestation of the Cultural Heritage of Ecuador.
Tigua is a town of indigenous and peasant Kichwas, in the province of Cotopaxi, which is 2 hours 16 minutes or 151.6 km from Quito. The trip is a spectacular area full of Andean landscapes. Patricio Realpe/ChakanaNews
