INTI RAYMI COTACACHI 019.jpg
COTACACHI, ECUADOR - JUNE 25: The ribbons that adorn the zamarros have an indigenous origin. The red represents the blood shed for them, the black, the darkness of the night, the yellow, the sun and the green, the hope of attaining freedom after the conquest. The indigenous communities of the Cotacachi area in Imbabura, Ecuador celebrate since ancient times, the Inti Raymi, the Hatun Puncha, which symbolizes their gratitude to the sun and the Pachamama, for fertility and for the harvests. For a week, indigenous people from different communities "take the square" of Cotacachi, walking from the hills that surround the town, with dances that are accompanied by a harmonious and ancestral rhythm.
