BORBÓN, ECUADOR - OCTOBER- 12- 2007. Papá Roncón, is a legend of the marimba in Ecuador. Guillermo Ayoví Erazo, which is his original name, was born in a town in Esmeraldas, Borbón in 1930 and at a very young age he began to play the marimba, taught by the Chachi, an originally people from the Ecuadorian coast. He is recognized nationally and internationally, having toured in Japan or the United States, in addition to the rest of Latin America. His inspiration has been to preserve the ancestral culture of his people, through the marimba. The marimba is a genre that sings to nature, rivers, mountains, and the soul of people.
