THE DEVILS OF LUZON 2022 016.jpg
LUZON, SPAIN - FEBRUARY 26, 2022: The Luzon Devil´s or “Diablos de Luzon”, are recreated in the bridge of town. Luzon Devil´s is a traditional carnival festival in Luzon, a town of province of Guadalajara, located in a valley surrounded by mountains. Devils are villagers who return to town, to dress with bull horns, supported on a pillow, long black robes, cowbells at the waist, with his face, arms and neck bare covered with a mixture of soot and olive oil. They walk through the town and play to scare people, smudging their faces with soot. In front of the Devils, there are the Mascaritas, representatives of the Good, characters dressed in white masks and long, colourful, silent, indefinite suits, they are men or women, who leave their homes, when the Devils arrive. This celebration can date from the 14th century, but it could be older. Patricio Realpe/ChakanaNews
