PASE DEL NIÑO 012.jpg
MADRID, SPAIN - DECEMBER 22: The Ecuadorian tradition of the "Pase del Niño", represents and gives cult to the arrival of the Infant Jesus. This 2019 has been celebrated in Madrid on December 22, dancing from the Plaza de España until culminating with the Mass in the Almudena Cathedral.
The tradition dates back to the 19th century and is full of symbolisms, combining indigenous and mestizo traditions. Accompanying Jesus, Mary and Joseph, we find sacha runes, with masks, rattle devils, named for their rattles that sound to the beat of the dance, dancers of Yaruquí, the curiquingue, representing this Andean bird, whose movements honored the God Sun, clowns, who are the ones who take care of the integrity of the child Jesus, and put the note of humor and joy and the devils. In addition they have also accompanied with their cholas dances and indigenous Quichua women, with their traditional dresses. (Photo by Patricio Realpe/ChakanaNews)
